Last week, PCG’s Project Success team led a group of new special education teachers through the New Teacher Jump Start program – a two-day online professional learning program for teachers who support students with disabilities and have between zero and three (0-3) years of teaching experience. Program sessions were designed around six core teaching principles, including:

  • All students, regardless of disability, have the right to access general education settings, content, peers, and experiences.
  • Communication is the foundation for access to the general curriculum and instruction.
  • Collaboration with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff is necessary to support students’ learning toward measurable outcomes.
  • Universal Design for Learning is a research-based, general education initiative that addresses the needs of ALL students by providing more flexibility and fewer barriers to learning.
  • Unpacking standards creates points of access for all students and reveals a pathway to mastering essential skills.
  • Individualized education program (IEP) goals should align with grade-level standards and be written to address the greatest barriers that prevent a student from accessing the general education curriculum.

Unlike the other professional learning programs offered by Project Success that run continuously throughout the school year, New Teacher Jump Start was designed to be a springboard into the classroom, as well a starting point into our yearlong Playbook opportunities that kick off in September! The Project Success Playbook for Special Education Teachers and Playbook for Emerging Teacher Leaders are online professional development opportunities that will delve more deeply into the topics covered in the New Teacher Jump Start, and we are thrilled to offer them both during the 2021-2022 school year!

Project Success Playbook for Special Education Teachers

New and experienced teachers will engage in content, collaboration, and coaching through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous professional development. Participants will have the opportunity to share artifacts and resources developed throughout the year at the end-of year-showcase.

  • Program kicks off September 21st!
  • An overview of the program (including course dates) is available via PCG’s Project Success Resource Center Site
  • To reserve your spot and/or request additional information about Project Success Playbook, contact Meredith Keedy-Merk (mkeedymerk@pcgus.com).

Project Success Playbook for Emerging Teacher Leaders

Teachers ready to participate in a more intensive professional development opportunity to build capacity and establish themselves as leaders in their district will engage in content, collaboration, and coaching through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous professional development. Throughout the year, they will implement a plan to address a problem of practice which will be presented as a capstone project at the end of the year.

  • Program kicks off September 22nd!
  • An overview of the program (including course dates) is available via PCG’s Project Success Resource Center Site
  • To reserve your spot and/or request additional information about Project Success Playbook, contact Meredith Keedy-Merk (mkeedymerk@pcgus.com).
